Michael D. McCartney
| Mr. McCartney is a lifelong resident of Steuben County and was appointed
as an Assistant District Attorney by John C. Tunney in January of 1988
and he has continued in that capacity since then.
He previously also served as an Assistant District Attorney under John M. Finnerty from October of 1977 to April of 1980, holding the position of Career Criminal Prosecutor. After leaving his first term as an Assistant District Attorney, he practiced law in Bath, New York, until January of 1988, specializing in criminal defense and Family court cases. Mr. McCartney also was appointed and served as Steuben County’s first Public Defender, a position that he held from March of 1983 until January of 1988, when he was appointed to his present position. Mr. McCartney graduated from East High School in Corning, New York. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, and a Juris Doctor Degree from Rutgers-Camden School of Law in Camden, New Jersey. He currently resides in Bath, New York with his wife, Rosalie, and his
son, John.
